Post an Update on your Travel/Study Design

Happy thanksgiving!
Enjoy working at home. Please work at least one hour today, on your travel/study design (Due Dec.15). And then post an update:
How is it going?
What are the parts that need more work?
What resources did you find helpful?
And other free thoughts.
You may reply to this post or start a new post.
Thank you!

  1. I've been working on my travel/study design and so far so good. I have a question on the logistical considerations - is this just a list or are we supposed to fill in details about the subject? Also, when there are questions do we leave the questions and put the answers underneath them? A resource that I found helpful was a handbook I received from my host school on things I should know and how to prepare myself for the experience. If you've received anything from your host country I would advise you to look at that information first, because its probably more accurate then other information received. There are a couple things that I was shocked about and had to verify them with some of my new networking friends from Hong Kong to get the truth. Not all websites are acurate and they can be out dated.

  2. I find the first part of the travel/study design to be fairly simple and we are writing about topics previously discussed in class. I need to keep working on my budget and learning experience. I feel the budget is going to take a lot of work, time and dedication. I will start this part of the project later in the week and I need to look closer at the example to see exactly what I need to do. The book I received from my host school is also very helpful like Angela said. It has a lot of Q&A sections so anything I could possibly think to ask is basically there. I also looked my school up online and found some Q&A and information on the website.

  3. In this recent, I went to see the adviser in music department for the study aboard information. He told me the program isn't exactly study aboard, but it is an international program which doesn't have to follow SDSU's study aboard requirement. He means that I don't have to study in a college; instead, I could find festivals or competitions to participate. Therefore, while I was planning the expense for the trip and for the Travel Design project, I found that my trip to Italy is expensive. I will need to rent a room and take care for every meal. Good thing about this international program is that it only requires 2 weeks of travel. At the same time, I found a music school that has festival and study aboard program, and it is called Il Trillo. For now, I'm doing the research for the school and hopefully that will be my target to go to when I have my international experience in Italy.

  4. Truth be told, while I have been working on my Travel/Study design, I haven't got much accomplished. From all my research I have done this semester I have a general idea of how to answer the questions. My problem is that when I am researching I get extremely wrapped up in it and can easily spend an hour reading up on something that doesn't need to be included in my report. But once I sit down and make myself write about the topics I hope will come together nicely.
The one part that I will need to think quite a bit about is the Budget. I am usually pretty good about saving and budgeting my money. Yet, this trip will be a challenge, because I will be surrounded by new, exciting oportunities that I surely won't want to pass up.

  5. The only part that I think might be somewhat challenging is the budgeting part. I'm not entirely sure about the exchange rate and cost of living. My school hasn't sent me any information packets which I think would be very helpful to learn about the experience and academics. I have to look online on the website, but I'm not always quite sure where to look or what to look for!

  6. My trave/study design is still a work in progess. A difficult part for me will be figuring out my budget. I have had a tough time finding prices of different items. The transportation will be my most important but difficult task because South America does not have a train system like Europe. Everything is very spread out and there are many geographic barriers that make travel from country to country difficult. I still have a lot to do but this project should be very helpful.

  7. the most difficult thing i am having problems with is figuring out the budget...there are many different sites that i have looked at but not many relating to what everything will cost...i went on craigslist amsterdam to look at different apartments because i am not sure that i want to live in a dorm when i live there...im spending time all this week completing this project, but that is deffinatly the most difficult part...yikes
